Animals: The arctic tundra is home to polar bears, lemmings, caribou, arctic hares, seals, walruses, foxes, snowy owls, and other animals that don’t mind the cold. The Antarctic tundra has little mammal life – mostly seals and walruses – but several sea birds, like penguins, live in or migrate to this region.

Plant life: The few plants that live in the tundra have adapted to the cold temperatures and darkness. Lichens, mosses, algae, and small shrubs can be found on the tundra, growing during the short summers in clusters that protect them from harsh winds.
